Creating an Event on Facebook

Today, I've been experimenting with creating an event
on Facebook. It's easy enough to do.

Here are 2 ways to create an event.

One way to do is is to create an event off
of your home page. In this case, the event
is tied to you personally.

Another way to create an event is to create
a page on Facebook that belongs to an organization.
The event hangs off the page that is tied to the
organization.

In short, you can tie events to yourself or
to an organization. You might want to tie
a worship service to your church. A hike
in the mountains with friends can be tied
to you personally.

Here are the steps to creating an event
that is tied to you personally:

  1. Log into your Facebook account
  2. Click on Facebook in the upper
left corner to be sure you are back at
    your home page.
  3. Find the vertical list of links on
the lefthand side of the page
  4. Find the link Events on
the lefthand side of the page
  5. Click on Events on
the lefthand side of the page
  6. Find Create an Event
at the top of the page
  7. Click on Create an Event

You may wish to associate an event with
an organization you belong to rather
than tie the event to yourself.

The 2 most generalized steps for
creating an event under an
organization are:

  1. Create a web page on Facebook for
    the organization
  2. Create the event under sponsorship
of the organization web page on Facebook

Of the two above steps, the first step
is creating the organization itself. Here's
the link for creating an organization
on Facebook:

Create a Page on Facebook

Once you have two or more pages you manage,
you can create additional ones by following
these steps:

  1. Log into your Facebook account
  2. Click on Facebook in the upper
left corner to be sure you are back at
    your home page.
  3. Find the vertical list of links on
the lefthand side of the page
  4. Find the link Ads and Pages on
the lefthand side of the page
  5. Click on Ads and Pages on
the lefthand side of the page
  6. Find Create Page
at the top of the page
  7. Click on Create Page
    to create a Facebook-hosted web
    page for your organization

The link to manage pages that
you have created is found in
either of two places:

  • On the left side of your
    Facebook page is a vertical
    list of links. Look for
    Ads and Pages
  • In the upper right-corner
    is a drop-down menu called
    Accounts. Look for Manage
    Pages
    there.

Let's say you are totally lost
and wish to return to your main
Facebook page so that you can
find things again. How do you
do this?

Click on the word Facebook in the
upper-left corner anytime after
you have logged into Facebook.
This will always take you back
to your main Facebook page where
all the links that are described
above can be found.

Getting Less Email From Facebook

OK. This is a new blog.

I don't mind getting email from facebook. However, I do mind being inundated with it.

Here are the steps I've taken to get facebook to send me less email.

  1. Log into your facebook account
  2. Click on settings (upper right corner)
  3. Click on notifications
  4. Turn off most email notifications

You turn off email notifications by making the checkmark go away for that item. In other words, click on the checkmark.

Later, if you find yourself missing some of these email notifications, you can turn them back on.

In general, though, I find it best to turn something off until I start missing it.

Update: November 14, 2014

It seems that things have changed. Now if you want to get to your settings, you have to go to the upper left-hand corner and click on the down arrow. Behind the down arrow is a menu that includes the menu choice, settings.

Things do change over time, don't they?
